United Nations of Britain

A person from every country in the world - all of them living here

This historic image reveals for the first time how the whole world has flocked to Britain. There are 192 countries in the UN and now the Mail has traced and photographed people from all but two of them who today make their homes in London. At the dawn of a new year, it presents a fascinating snapshot of the changing face of our nation.

Mount Saint-Michel in Normandy, France

Mount Saint-Michel is located on a tidal island in Normandy, France. It is home to the unusual Benedictine Abbey and steepled church (built between the 11th and 16th centuries), daringly placed at the top of the mount. Many underground crypts and chapels had to be built to compensate for this weight. The tides in the area can vary greatly, at roughly 14 metres between high and low water marks.
